Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to start working from his new office near Raisina Hill later this month as the construction work nears completion. The new office is a part of the Central Vista Project.
During the construction, the complex was called Executive Enclave, but the government has since then named it Seva Teerth, meaning a place of service.
The campus has three buildings. Seva Teerth 1 will house the Prime Minister’s Office, Seva Teerth 2 will accommodate the Cabinet Secretariat, and Seva Teerth 3 will house the National Security Council Secretariat along with the office of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
Many other parts of the Central Vista redevelopment are already in place. The new Parliament building and the Vice President’s enclave have been completed. The Prime Minister’s Office is almost ready, while three of the eight planned ministerial office buildings are already operational.
Besides the office, the new residence of the Prime Minister is also being built close to the office complex. He will move from his current residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, to this new residence once the construction work is completed.
The new office complex includes modern meeting rooms designed to host visiting dignitaries. Officials said the interiors combine advanced technology with elements reflecting India’s culture and traditions.
A newly designed hall has been created for Cabinet meetings. The Prime Minister’s Office will function on an open-floor layout, a move aimed at encouraging a more collaborative work environment.
Since Independence, the Prime Minister’s Office has operated from the South Block, which also housed the External Affairs and Defence Ministries. The North Block earlier accommodated the Home and Finance Ministries. These ministries have now shifted to Kartavya Bhavan.
The North and South Blocks, which date back to the colonial era, will now be converted into a large museum complex. The museum is planned to showcase India’s civilisation spanning nearly 5,000 years, with its first phase expected to open early next year.
