Reports of several B1/B2 visa applications getting rejected surfaced on social media Friday, claiming that these rejections took place in the past few days. No explicit reasons were given for these rejections; the applicants claimed.
This came at a time when the H-1B visa stamping has been delayed in India for months, ever since the social media vetting began on December 15. B1/B2s are short-term visitor visas for business or tourism and can't be used for work in the US. The US Consulate General Mumbai yesterday issued a reminder about the use and misuse of B1/B2 visas and said they only allow business meetings. "Know the rules before you travel. A B1/B2 visitor visa can be used to conduct business meetings and negotiate contracts but you need a different visa to work.
Unauthorized employment can lead to deportation and/or a permanent ban from entering America in teh future," the message issued by the consulate read.

A Redditor said her rejection got rejected at the Mumbai consulate, though she explained to the visa officer wht she was intending to visit the US for attending business meetings with a client and the client's suppliers. The Redditor said the visa officer asked her who these suppliers were, a question that she was not prepared for.
But she said she explained that she works for a client and they have some suppliers. And her role oversees the client-supplier relationship, as she already mentioned on her DS160 form. The visa officer told the woman that she was not eligible for a visa at this time. She was handed with 214b slip, which said she failed to showcase her tie to the US or justify the purpose of the visit. Redditors decoded that getting a visa has become a chance game in present situation and many said that visa officers often reject applications going by the body language of the applicants.
